Linkin Park-Honda Civic Tour

I have always been a HUGE Linkin Park fan. I went to their Project Revolution tour that came to Jones Beach 2 years in a row and stayed the entire time from 12pm when the doors opened until midnight. I remember I had to be like 14 the first time I had went and I wasn't allowed to be there all day and night by myself so my dad came with me and my friend and dragged his friend with him...I failed to tell them that it was a 12hr concert, needless to say he was not very thrilled to find out that Linkin Park didn't actually start playing until 9pm.

For those of you that do not know of Linkin Park or are not big fans, I advise you to give them a chance. All of their songs have deep meaning to them and many of them helped me get through a lot of tough times while growing up. Their songs made me feel like I wasn't alone, that I wasn't the only one going through hard times and that many other people are going through worse situations. They are a mixture of rock and rap and I have not heard one song that I did not like but I do have a few favorites that I have posted below, hopefully you'll like them also and I can create a few new LP fans. :)

Last summer Blink 182 came to the Jones Beach theater for their Honda Civic tour. This year Linkin Park is doing a Honda Civic tour. Tickets go on sale this Monday at 10AM for the Honda Civic Tour, featuring Linkin Park and Incubus. However, I'm very upset that LP is not coming back to New York this year. I've been waiting for another LP concert to come here for a few years now. The tour is going to CT,NJ,VA,CO,CA and TX but not New York. I would have LOVED to see this concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado but I'm going to be there in July and they're going to be there in August. Connecticut is way too expensive because its going to be at Mohegan Sun but NJ might be a possibility.

So my song for you guys is perfect for the end of this assignment. "In The End" I'm also going to post a few of my other favorites because I've been listening to them all day since I found out that tickets were going on sale this week for their tour. LP is always playing on my iPod, especially at the gym or driving to the beach because it reminds me of their concerts. Hopefully, they'll be back to NY again sometime soon, but I will travel anywhere for them because they're my favorite band, always have been, always will be.

Anyone else a big LP fan? Leave some comments and thanks for reading our blogs, I hope that we were able to give you a better insight to different types of music, give you a new favorite or allow you to reminisce through the past of old favorites.

Listen

I decided to dedicate my last blog for this project to the song Listen.  As my friend Gina pointed out to me, this song, Listen, has a similar title to our blog, which is one reason why I chose this song.  The other reason is because of the message it leaves.

Expressed is how one might not listen, but if only they did.  When those we love don’t listen to us, it’s okay and important to continue to move on and listen to our own voice.  Don’t limit yourself to what others tell you, but go with your own instincts; listen to the voice within.  Be who you want to be and explore the endless world of opportunities that come before you.

Best wishes to all my readers, and maybe we’ll reconnect in the blog world,

Thank you for reading,

Carissa

Old Favorite: "Third Eye Blind"

Usually, when I turn on the radio, I hear the same songs that, in my opinion, the radio stations are overplaying. The songs that are considered the "chart toppers" or the song that just came out are, yes, the ones that the radio feels are necessary to play so many times, your ears want to bleed. I can honestly say that I do like the some of the new music that comes out, but what I totally love is when radio stations play songs that I used love back in the day. When I was younger, I remember hearing the songs "Semi-Charmed Life" "Jumper" and "How's It Going To Be" on the radio. These songs, who are performed by the great band by the name of "Third Eye Blind," were the songs that were my favorite on the radio. And as the years went on, the songs faded into the past and were not on the radio as much, if at all. The other day, however, I was extremely excited to hear that one of these songs, "How's It Going To Be" specifically, was playing on the radio!! I know that, yes, I could just plug my IPhone into my car and play the song, but the fact that the radio is playing it again (on occasion of course) is pretty awesome. It's nice to know that some songs people may have viewed as "one-hit wonders" are still being appreciated to some extent. And to those who have no idea who this band is, chances are, you will once you hear them. For most, they are the artists whose songs you have heard, but you have never knew the names of their songs (unless they have been pointed out, like now).
Below, I included a link below to one of my favorite "Third Eye Blind" songs: "Semi-Charmed Life."

American Idol-Somebody That I Used To Know

I had always been a big American Idol fan since season one with Kelly Clarkson, that was back in 2002, when I was still in junior high school. I got into it every season, but once Simon left, I lost interest. It was no longer as funny without his brutal, constructive criticism, sarcasm and insults. I honestly have not watched it since he left, until this season caught my attention. I had no interest in watching American Idol this season I didn't even watch the auditions like I used to, I had no idea who anyone was or their story. My father actually had it taped on the DVR and suggested I watched this weeks past episode. I am now going to continue watching the rest of the season, even if its on DVR, I'm hooked.

American Idol is in its 7th Season. This past week they had to sing duets with another contestant. Elise and Philip, sang "Somebody that I used to know" by Gotye feat.Kimbra. I have heard the song a few times on the radio here and there and the song definitely had a catchy tune. Everyone has been through a break up in their life, some more than others. We all have heard the line "we'll still be friends" even though we all know that's not possible. This song is about two people who had recently broke up and each other their feelings of their memories and the break up. The guy of course remembers when they were once happy in the past and the girl remembers how he screwed her over and she blamed herself...I'm sure we have ALL been there.

I posted the video from this past weeks American Idol episode with Elise and Philip and I also posted the official video from Gotye and Kimbra...the performance video from American Idol is done a little differently than the official video (There is also a link to the lyrics of the song if you would like to follow along) - - - So take a listen and let me know what you think.

Where is the Love- Black Eyed Peas

My brother Philip who is three years younger than me, and I really like this song going back when I must have been about 12 or 13 years old.  We did not know about YouTube, and other ways to obtain music of the internet.  We waited for the song to come on BLI, which was about once every hour, and taped recorded it.
To this day I like this song.  Like other songs I have blogged about, it opens one’s eyes up to society.  A part that currently stands out to me is about how we are concerned about all the other countries doing harmful acts to us, but look at the people we have right here.  We have “children crying,” and people turning their heads away from the truth.  The main question that this song focuses on is “where is the love?”  So, where is it?
In the music video they show how on the news are negative things.  What catches the main attention of the media and then spread to the public is what is happening that is not good, rather than focusing on who is doing positive things in society.  Sometimes it feels like those that are committing crimes becomes more famous and well-known compared to someone who is volunteering a lot of their time, running fun events for the community, and doing good for society.
Here is the official music video.

One Tree Hill's Music Star; Gavin DeGraw

For those "One Tree Hill" fans out there, I am positive that you caught last week's series finale. To be perfectly honest, the final episode was ok. I was not on the edge of my seat, and I almost fell asleep. To be able to wrap up nine nail biting episodes filled with story lines I could not wait to see, seemed impossible. And even though the commercials fooled viewers by saying it was a two hour series finale, the first hour consisted of a interesting documentary-style episode. It was filled with commentary by the shows creator and the familiar faces that I have been used to seeing hanging out at the popular River Court. And when it came to music, the producers really knew what they were doing.  Bands such as Jimmy Eat World, Nada Surf and Jack's Mannequinn have lended their musical talent to certain episodes of "One Tree Hill." The main musical inspiration was, one of my favorite artists, Gavin DeGraw. The opening credits feature DeGraw's song titled "I Don't Want To Be." After watching the documentary, I learned that, by having his song on "One Tree Hill," Gavin DeGraw became an overnight sensation. His album. titled "Chariot," became the new favorite of "One Tree Hill" fans everywhere. To hear that Gavin DeGraw was able to launch his career on this show is awesome. I believe that certain artists are not given the recognition they deserve. To say I am extremely glad that Gavin DeGraw was recognized for his great talent is an understatement. I have all his albums and I was also able to see him live last December, where he played a fantastic show. He also made a few appearances on the "One Tree Hill" as well, playing himself, and was, of course, featured in the series finale.

Check out the song that made him a star, "I Don't Want To Be."

Colbie Caillat- New Album

I'm sure that most of you know Colbie for her two more popular songs, "Bubbly" and "Fallin for you". Ive always loved listening to those songs in the summer with the widows down, hair blowing in the wind as I drive to the beach. It always put me in a great mood. Im sure everyone has a set playlist or few songs that always seem to make you smile and put you in a better mood if your day isn't going so great. I honestly have a certain playlist for the beach, the gym, I have one for when I'm reading and another with a mix of everything when I'm not too sure what I'm in the mood for.

I was watching the Ellen Show the other day and Colbie Caillat just so happened to be performing live. I was all excited, since I had not heard anything new from her in a while so I was eager to hear what she was going to play. Her new album All of You features a bunch of new singles set to come out sometime this year (2012) but the actual release date is still unknown. The song I had heard on the Ellen show is called "Favorite Song" and she sings it with rap artist Common. She has never let me down with her music, this is now going to be added to my summer playlist to listen to in the car or on my iPhone because the song has been stuck in my head ever since I heard it.

Take a listen for yourself and tell me what you think!

I also posted Bubbly and Fallin for You in case some of you have not heard of them or just don't remember.
